Getting a Tour business listed on TripAdvisor
We have been having a debate with Jim Brody from TripAdvisor as to why they should be entering our products onto their system. To date we have been unsuccessful because TripAdvisor claim we are providing extended tours ie. overnight. This is the only reason we do not qualify. We meet all other critera?
The name TripAdvisor is somewhat misleading if a company who provides trips which consist of a Tour plus Accommodation in the one, cannot register. When an accommodation house can register and a tour which is for 1 day or less can register ? We have said to tripadvisor that it would be of great benefit to them, if we were to encourage guests to use trip advisor rather than the old ways of filling out a feedback sheet.. but to no avail.
Thanks
Hi Ruth,
Thanks for the post and raising this unfortunately common issue.
I understand your frustration, we have had the same case with another Tour business years ago that was only allowed to be listed as a “resource”.
I have contacted TripAdvisor and asked them to clarify the requirements for tours and will post back as soon as I hear from them.

LikeRuth,
I have just had Jim Brody from Tripadvisor on the phone clarifiying the below information for our Tour Operators.
As you may see TripAdvisor’s website is currently based around destinations and doesn’t support multi-locations. By definition, a tour is a “roving attraction” which includes multi location….
However, Jim totally agrees that offering Tours the ability to get reviewed is very legitimate and has been pushing for this functionality to be built into TripAdvisor. The system is not just there yet. As you may be aware, TripAdvisor has recently purchased Every Trail which shows that they are going in this direction.
The good news? Well, tours CAN be listed as an attraction. The way to do so is to list a day tour (which doesn’t include accommodation or overnight) as an attraction. This would be the reason why you may see competitors being listed.
The other recommendation is to maximise the use of the forums on TripAdvisor. For instance, you could search for your region and engage with forum users to let them know about your product.
Also, have you thought about getting reviewed on other websites? For instance on your Google Places listing?
I hope my answer clarifies your question and thanks again for asking.

LikeWe tried to be loaded Onto Tripadvisor as an attraction and we told we were unable to. Our competitor is loaded as an attraction and is getting all the reviews http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g261596-d1765607-Reviews-Iceberg_Sailing-Airlie_Beach_Whitsunday_Islands_Great_Barrier_Reef_Queensland.html. So what do we do now?? this totally disadvantages us in a highly competitive market!

LikeHi Ruth, did you see my response above? You need to list a day tour as an attraction and this is allowed. Please try again and send me a screenshot of your application. If it doesn’t get accepted I will contact TripAdvisor again.

LikeHi Ruth, since we do not work for TripAdvisor I am not sure about the details with regards to your competitors.
If you need to contact TripAdvisor, the best option is through the owners center: http://www.tripadvisor.com/help/owners
Please keep me informed about how the situation evolves.
