I accidentally changed my personal Facebook username (URL) to be my business name and I cannot fathom how to undo it – please help!
Please could you help – I was inspired by the workshop to claim our username and place on facebook – however, somehow my personal page is now named mycompanyname and I cannot fathom how to undo it - any ideas – I have abandoned trying to claim facebook place! Many thanks Barbara
I am concerned that when you change your username that name (mycompanysname) is then not available to be reclaimed by my company
Hi Barbara,
Unfortunately you are not alone in this mistake. Never fear though, it is fixable, however you can only make one more change to your username so ensure you are very careful this time.
To change your username to an appropriate one for your personal account so your business name can be used for your business page the process is nice and simple.
You should now be able to change over to use facebook as your page and claim your page’s username/ alias.

LikeMany thanks for clarifying changing my personal account which I now can understand. However, I created the problem in the first place by thinking I was on my page (meaning my companys page) and I am not sure how to navigate to my co’s page for the claiming. Can you confirm that facebook allows for a ’2nd’ claiming of the same co name – I read somewhere that a name that has been used once cannot be claimed again. Thank you -

LikeNot a problem,
To switch back over to your business account you need to click on the account drop down on the right top corner, about two or three down there is an option called “Use Facebook as Page”. If you click on this button you will be provided with a pop up showing the name of your business and a switch button. Clicking on the switch button will take you back to operating as the business.
Once you are the business, to edit the username/ alias of the business you need to click on the Edit Info button, then the marketing option on the left hand side and then alias becomes an option. It is a little different to the personal account which is where you may have slipped up last time.
Unfortunately at the moment Facebook will not allow you to reuse the username that was previously used, I would recommend that you use a variation of this where possible.

Hi Barbara,
After doing a little searching I have also found a link to this infringement form: http://www.facebook.com/help/contact.php?show_form=username_infringement
Essentially this is saying that the username claimed by your personal account infringes on your business account (this is directly against facebook’s terms of use) and as such you would like the username removed. As you have already removed it, this part of the form only has a secondary purpose, the important part of the form is the bottom field where you can mark if you would like the username applied to your page.
Filling this form out should start the wheels in motion and hopefully with a little assessment from Facebook the username will be applied to your page (very much at their discretion however so not entirely guaranteed)
Cheers
Mel

LikeHello Mel
Thank you very much for your help – good news from Facebook – not only did they agree to ‘release’ the re-use of the claimed username, they actually did all the changes for me – fantastic result.
Once again thank you for your assistance.
Kind Regards
Barbara
